August 2010 The Earth’s climate has changed. The global average surface temperature has increased over the last century and many other associated changes have been observed. Climate Change Science - Faster Change and More Serious RisksProfessor Will Steffen, Executive Director of the Climate Change Institute at the Australian National University was commissioned by the Federal Government to report on the updated science of climate change. This document reviews and synthesises the science of climate change since the publication of the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's report, with an emphasis on rapidly changing areas of science of direct policy relevance. The Garnaut Climate Change ReviewProfessor Ross Garnaut was commissioned by all of the governments of Australia’s federation to examine the impacts of climate change on Australia and to recommend policy frameworks to improve the prospects of sustainable prosperity. The Garnaut Climate Change Review examines the impacts of climate change on the Australian economy and the costs of adaptation and mitigation. It analyses the elements of an appropriate international policy response, and the challenges that face Australia in playing its proportionate part in that response. Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme LegislationThe Government introduced this CPRS legislative package into the Parliament on Thursday 14 May 2009. The introduction of these Bills follows the release of the Green Paper on the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme in July 2008, the White Paper in December 2008, and the exposure draft legislation on 10 March 2009.
